Electrical Equipment & Supplies

Toggle switches, also known as joystick switches, are multi-functional devices that can be used in almost any electrical application. In this article, we will take you through the working principle of toggle switches and their applications.

What is a toggle switch?

A toggle switch is a type of electronic switch and is one of the most widely used electrical components. An electronic switch provides on-off control for a circuit by interrupting the flow of current or allowing it to resume. This is accomplished by removing the metal contact from the terminal (the end point of the circuit) or by bringing the two back into contact.

A toggle switch has a manually operated hinge, handle or lever mechanism - called a toggle switch - that moves from one position to another. In each position, it typically locks into place and stays there until moved back.

How do Toggle Switches Work?

A toggle switch is a device used to turn a machine on or off. When the toggle switch is pushed, the armature switches the contacts to start or stop the current.

When the contacts are connected, the circuit closes, the current can flow, and the connected device will turn on and operate. When the contacts are moved away, the current is interrupted, the circuit is broken, and the device is turned off.
