Technical Applications of Wool Felt - Britishfelt

As a Seal

Felt strips for general dust seals

Felt Seals are used because they prevent the escape of oils, greases and gases, and the entrance of dust and dirt.

They are easy to install and may be impregnated with oil prior to assembly.

They are available in a multitude of thicknesses, diameters and densities.

As a Friction Material

Felt transfer rollers and polishing wheels

Wool felts are used for wiping because their non-fray homogenous structure maintains constant performance during wear life and they can carry a liquid layer and distribute it evenly.

They are used for polishing because they are tough and resilient, and during use wear in such a way that the working surface is constantly renewed.

As a Wick

Felts seals and washers

Felts are used because they absorb liquids readily due to capillary action, are non-fray and resilient. They store, distribute and deliver a wide range of liquids.

As a cushioning material or insulator for heat and sound

Because of their long lasting resiliency under different loads, wool felts are used as vibration isolators, for padding cushioning, gasketing, as heat insulating material and as shock-absorbing packaging.

As a dust collector or filter medium for liquid or gas

Various white felt rolls

Because of their homogenous structure giving high flow rates and good particle collection efficiencies, wool felts make excellent filter media, where the chemical and physical conditions are not destructive of the wool fibre. Wool felt filters fabrics are available in a wide range of thicknesses and densities according to need.

Wool felt can be supplied with the following properties.

  1. High Resilience
  2. Non fraying.
  3. Low flammability
  4. Not adversely affected by oil, water, weather conditions.
  5. Can be cemented to other surfaces, e.g., glass, wood, plastic, metal.
  6. Can be used in temperatures up to 120 Celsius in oil, and up to 110 Celsius in air.
  7. Available within the range of pH values 5-8 when required.
  8. Available in fabricated form, cut and shaped to users&#; special requirements.
