So when it is a matter of time, I'm thinking stapler.... or clamp

quote:

Originally posted by Alfrik:
I'm wondering, if you have something that needs sutures, why not just use some Crazy Glue, or a medical grade cyanoacrylate? Obviously, I'd vote for the medical grade stuff, but in an emergency, any old port in a storm, so to speak.

Meh, medical and hardware store seem the same to me. The 'They seem like a solution for when Crazy Glue will not do the trick." was covered in the 1st post.
As a Crazy Glue user you know there are some irritating points where direct pressure isn't slowing the bleeding after 1/2-1 hr and you have the layering of glue to clot it then the next day falloff and associated bleeding control again.. and then the other irritating falloffs that you either build the stuff back up to get it to stick or peel it completely and start again. Amazing stuff but by no means flawless.

One of the most attractive staplers is the one that can be reloaded. Allows tattoo artist style practice (Mmmm, chicken again tonight!). No need to go to the dog lab like a doc would (well OK, they would probably use a cadaver or synthetic alternative instead of using the dog lab).

quote:

Originally posted by Chuckaluphagus:
Wife (doctor) recommends that you not get a skin stapler. When I described your OP to her, her eyes went wide and she said "You can do a lot more harm than good with a skin stapler if you don't know what you're doing."

Note to self: do not try to hold contacts in with the stapler. Seriously if it helps I did out score my military buddy on his field medic book test... like 20 years ago (there were no questions on staplers; it is just that I cruised on knowledge from 9th grade when I was going to go premed, well and the 'Nam vet Webelos leaders who taught us such great medical things as "how to do CPR on someone who has been hit in the chest with a .50").

More harm than good? In a "no other choice" situation? Nice. Lets face it, I'll let the 15 year old with hours turbine time in MS Flight Sim , fly the plane if the pilots are dead and there are no other options... and I was a freaking pilot!* (this assumes I to, am dead)

I suspect that this is like when a sysadmin hears "they said it is a simple registry change, I can fix this myself" from a user. Don't worry, I may be crazy but I'm not 'tarded. I'm sure the same thing has been said about quik clot... If you want scary my brother had a theory about making a portable clotting agent with citric acid and other things long before clotting agents were popular.. Though long after the European (Italian?) study on preventing patients from bleeding out using high concentrate saline (which is unheard of these days AFAIK so I'm guessing that outside those car wrecks they were trying it on it didn't work out well, Was I the only 9th grader reading the NEJM? It was like Physics Today, everyone here read that... or at least hit on the girl next to you who was reading it.)

Hmm, go buy the reloadable if the staples are a reasonable price. Then buy chickens. Once good with chickens, try on self.

*This assumes he'll be better at setting the auto pilot than all other people on the plane.
