Glad I ordered replacement plates in advance, it takes a bit of practice to get these grinders working right. Plates too close? You now have flat plates. Screw them on too tight? The plates will crack. Material not 100% dry? You now have gunk/fats between the teeth and have to remove/clean them before continuing.
Noise level was loud but understandable for the amount of work it does. I wouldnt use it in my home but a barn/workshop or even garage shouldnt be a problem. When grinding (at least finely grinding) it kicks off a bit of dust and there isnt much you can do about it except sweep up after. This probably depends on what/how fine you are grinding, mine was very dry and very fine and maybe 1-2% was dusted around the area.
Cleaning requirements were minimal with dry material, occasionally opened up to scrape off any plant fats/oils that deposited but it never clogged or caused issues once material was dry. If you have a large amount of material you need to reduce to powder this thing will get it done, it can go for quite a while before getting hot. It never overheated but I would get paranoid and let it cool down every 15-20 min when it felt hot. Id recommend getting some high-temp grease and cleaning/lubing the ball bearing between the adjustment screw and the outer plate occasionally. It isnt a sealed system so bits of dust get on it (and get burned by the friction i think) so it would get black gunk in there and cause squeaking after a while.
Additionally, I wouldnt use these for anything meant to be consumed directly. The plates wear down over time (at least when grinding small, hard seeds which require the plates to be so close they occasionally touch), so the ground-up powder will contain trace amounts of metal from the teeth. I imagine this wouldnt be an issue for softer or coarsely ground materials, but I wouldnt use this for grinding homemade rice flour or something like that.
